Hi everyone, welcome to my adventures in Scotland. I am ready to give you all the ~unfiltered~ (or lightly filtered, hi nana) tour of my next few months across the pond.
Let's start on good old Cape Cod. I put myself into this weird denial about leaving the country for hmm.. let's see.. yeah the entire summer. Everyone would ask if I was excited and I'd tell them yes, but it didn't feel real. At all. Until I was literally on my way to the airport with Sue (my mom). That was when it all hit me and I realized that I was about to be on my own. I'm sure that most of the people reading this know that my mom and I are incredibly close and you guys probably can't imagine us leaving each other for more than a week. Well we can't either. At least I know I can't. But anyways. I cried through security and probably looked like a psychopath but whatever. I waved goodbye to Sue one last time (I'm not crying, you're crying), and I was on my own. Yikes because I literally haven't navigated an airport entirely on my own since I was 14 and obviously at that age someone (like a flight attendant) is holding your hand the entire time. So basically I held my own hand (just kidding but I may as well have) and got on the plane. Yay me!
I flew on British Airways so everyone had an accent which was quite lovely (imagine that in a British accent because I just did). I sat in the emergency exit row (flex) next to a couple who complained about how the seats weren't big enough, we didn't have anywhere to put our bags, where was the tv... blah blah they were miserable. I was literally ballin because I had so much leg room and welcome to ~international waters~ where I was served wine (for free, I may add). The flight attendants brought out food after which was literally disgusting, some rice and chicken and some super concerning looking soup(?) that was basically wet cole slaw. So not ok. I wound up eating a bread roll with cheese (how cute that they served cheese with the roll??) and this bomb lemon pudding. I hope I can find this pudding um everywhere because I literally loved it. The flight attendants came by with croissants or pretzels or tea or coffee or drinks every time I woke up from my naps which was lovely. I watched some terrible movie and then I got to London for my connecting flight.
In London, I was expecting to just walk to the gate to get to my plane but oh no, I had to go through security yet again because who knows what kind of trouble I could cause between walking from one plane to the next. The British are insane with security. I thought America was rough but they go all out over here and I was not prepared to have every liquid I have ever thought about in my life out in a bag. Watched some girl get some expensive sun bum hair spray and some of her makeup thrown away and I might have shed a tear for her. Made it though and got to Scotland!
I found out after the fact (once I arrived in Edinburgh) that the security was so rough in London because I was going through customs and I didn't even know it. Silly me! I had a whole mishap with my visa because I went through the fast track line even though I was supposed to get a sticker from one of the officers. This is going to be a problem (whoops) but not a problem for today.. everyone insists that it will be sorted out so I am going to go with that.
Thankfully I made it to my apartment and have settled in a little bit by now. I have met most of my flat mates and the other students from the program (CIS) that I am studying through. I will update more in the next few days, but for tonight... #stayclassyscotland
10/10 would recommend this pudding. |
