first few days

Friends at Edinburgh Castle
Hi all,
I know I have taken a few days to get to my blogging but I have been so busy! So far I am LOVING Edinburgh! It is so lively and there are so many things to do. My flatmates (the cool way to say other people who live in my apartment) are awesome and we have been having a lot of fun.

The first few days I have been getting to know the other girls in CIS and going on adventures with them and our program leader, Jeanna. Because Jeanna is a native of Edinburgh, she has been showing us all the sights and giving us the ins and outs of the city. We have gone shopping on Princes Street, explored Old Town, saw the castle, etc... and that was all on the first day. All the girls (8 of us) in CIS get along well and have been enjoying learning more about the city and each other. It is also nice because we have adopted some of our other flatmates into the group so they add some more excitement as well. We also had an orientation for international students where we bought tickets to the Highland Games which are this coming weekend!

Old Town (Uncle Tommy says I missed out
by not visiting the Harry Potter store which
is apparently the red door on the left in this picture)

The Meadows

The next day (Sunday) we went off again with Jeanna and went to The Meadows (a huge park that is apparently on top of a grave for people who died in the plague?? Kinda sketchy but ok), Calton Hill, AND Hollyrood Palace. No joke. I stepped on the ground that the QUEEN had also stepped on, so obviously I went into the gift shop and bought um everything in sight. I decided that I must find at least one member of the royal family before December 22 or I legit will not fly home. Also, they are filming Fast and Furious here right now so THE ROCK is literally in Edinburgh. I would love to see him while I am here as well as I keep walking by the movie sets.. I am expecting to see him any day now. I am going to have to become better at stalking so that I can find all the people I want to see! Anyways, we have been doing a lot of walking... like 8 or so miles a day walking... and it is tiring!!

Me being starstruck thinking about the Royals

Just because we are tired obviously hasn't stopped any of us from going out at night... the night life here is crazy. Most of the pubs stay open until 3 am, and because it is "freshers week" (basically syllabus week minus the classes) everyone is going out all the time. It is a week for freshmen (and international students) to get acclimated to school. It honestly makes my friends and I feel old because we can't keep up with going out every night! But the school is putting on big parties at clubs every night and they are really fun, and a great way for us to meet people from other countries. Also there is a pub called the Three Sisters, where we get student discounted drinks, which is very nice. I'm sure no one was worried about me finding my way around the bar scene, but I want you to be sure that I am all set on that front--- but don't worry Mama Sue I have been practicing my casual drinking and am excelling at it !!

All in all it was a great first weekend, and I can't wait to get to know my way around the city much more!! Stay tuned for more updates and #stayclassyscotland

Milan and Budapest

Who would’ve ever thought I would be flying to Italy on Thanksgiving day! Definitely not me!!   Jamie, Susan, Anna and I headed off from Edinburgh to fly to Milan for the next few days. Spirits were high and pizza was on the mind. On our way to the airport I looked at my Apple Pay receipts which was disturbing because I spent a little too much money out at the club the night before.. hehe oops. So I spent the first part of our flight calculating how much money everyone owed me for the drinks I bought them and wound up feeling a lot better.   We got to our airbnb in Milan pretty late but we were all starving so we had to go find somewhere that was open for us to eat. We found this restaurant and all inhaled pizza. I thought it was the best pizza ever because I was starving! The next morning we woke up and headed over to the Duomo area. We went inside the cathedral which was beautiful and even climbed to the top of it. The view was very cool and we got some bomb ...

Jamie Visits Edinburgh

Just a few days after we returned from Copenhagen, Jamie came to visit me! I was so excited for her to come and stay with me for the whole week of thanksgiving! Poor thing though, her flight got delayed so she didn’t get to me until Saturday afternoon instead of Saturday morning. I went to pick her up at the airport and of course they lost her bag. She was a bit of a mess but I helped her pull it together… you know after she cried for a while <3   That night we brought her out to Finnegans Wake (aka the best bar/our favorite bar in Edinburgh). She was quite a trooper being so tired but still coming out!! She got to have quite a ~real~ experience, as we were bringing her along with us to do everything that we usually do anyway. The next day we went to the Christmas market.   On Monday she got to come to class with me (lucky) and then we went to ASDA, which is basically Scottish Walmart. We were prepping to have a full thanksgiving dinner on Tuesday night so we ...

Arthur's Seat

Hiii guys, So the other day the gals and I set off to climb Arthur's Seat at sunset (so basic, but come on we had to). The 7 of us set off to the bus and arrived at the base of the mountain. For those of you who don't know, Arthur's Seat is a hike to a dormant volcano in Edinburgh, very scenic and famous, and very beautiful. It overlooks the whole city, and it is kind of random to have this huge mountain in a city. So we had heard that if you keep climbing left, you will get on the best path up the mountain. We start, and some of us were leading the pack because we didn't want to miss the sunset. For some reason I was one of the leaders (I really don't love leading groups on activities such as this one, but oh well). We start, keeping with the left turns, and make it up to the top, which was not a very challenging hike by any means. We only had to climb at almost a 90 degree angle a few times (ok yeah that part was hard), but the rest of it wasn't bad!! We made...
