Hiii guys,
So the other day the gals and I set off to climb Arthur's Seat at sunset (so basic, but come on we had to). The 7 of us set off to the bus and arrived at the base of the mountain. For those of you who don't know, Arthur's Seat is a hike to a dormant volcano in Edinburgh, very scenic and famous, and very beautiful. It overlooks the whole city, and it is kind of random to have this huge mountain in a city. So we had heard that if you keep climbing left, you will get on the best path up the mountain. We start, and some of us were leading the pack because we didn't want to miss the sunset. For some reason I was one of the leaders (I really don't love leading groups on activities such as this one, but oh well). We start, keeping with the left turns, and make it up to the top, which was not a very challenging hike by any means. We only had to climb at almost a 90 degree angle a few times (ok yeah that part was hard), but the rest of it wasn't bad!! We made it up in 12 minutes. We were all like hm that's weird, I thought it was supposed to take like 45 mins. So I'm out here patting myself on the back for being so sporty.. and then I look behind me. The REAL peak was behind us... a different mountain. Turns out that we had to walk a little further at the base to hit the actual mountain. So we wound up hiking the mini Arthur's Seat, which is *basically* the same thing. It was still part of Arthur's Seat, just not the highest peak. But that's okay, we wound up getting the see the sunset (which was cloudy of course because it's usually cloudy here), and we still got a little hike in. Another reason we went at this time of night is because some of my friends wanted to see the full moon because it was spooky Friday the 13th and it was something about witches that they wanted to do. I have no idea, all I know is that it was too cloudy to see the moon so we wound up descending the mountain at dusk, which was a lot scarier than doing it in the daylight. We kept slipping down the rocks and I thought I was going to roll down the mountain at one point when I slipped BUT we all made it down in one piece so no worries.
So now I have a real motive to go back to Arthur's Seat, not just because it was beautiful, but so that I can make it all the way to the top. Now that I know where to go, I think I will be a lot better off!!
Anna and I booked tickets to go to Brussels this weekend, so we are off tomorrow to eat waffles, taste chocolate, drink beer... oh and maybe see some of the sights. And fix my visa issues, hehe. I will let you all know about the trip!! Until then.. #stayclassyscotland
