Chocolate Tour

Hi fans,
I would love to share with you all our chocolate tour we went on while in Brussels! I haven't had much down time in the past week to write about it, so I will be sharing it now :)
As we all know, some of the best chocolate in the world is Belgian chocolate. Part of the fun in visiting Belgium is going to chocolate shops and trying some of their chocolate. Anna and I didn't want to spend a lot of money by going on some fancy guided tour, and wanted to work on our own schedule.. so we did our own chocolate tour. We modeled it after https://www.earthtrekkers.com/brussels-chocolate-tour-on-your-own/ because this family knows what they are doing in regards to traveling and they are our new idols so we had to do their tour. (shoutout sue for finding them) Basically, their tour takes you on a nice little walking tour of the city all whilst getting to taste chocolate along the way. Win win.
We started at Grand Place, and went to Neuhaus. Apparently they have really good truffles which I don't think I'd ever even had before, so we each decided to try one. The other chocolates we got were caramel filled or something and they were so good. This place was good and I would definitely say to go there.

Our next place was literally next door and this was called Mary Chocolatier. I got another truffle here, this time it was coconut, and another caramel type chocolate. Clearly I am struggling to remember every type of chocolate that we got but alas you guys get the idea. This place was literally so cute and SO good. It was both of our favorite of the whole day. I liked it so much that the next day I made us stop there so that I could get more chocolate. It was also decorated beautifully and the people working there were so helpful in helping you decide what type of chocolate to taste. All in all 10/10 experience.

Anna and I then set off towards Mannekin Pis so that we could get some more pictures of it and so that we could get some steps in before we went to the next chocolate place. On our bike tour we found out that the Mannekin Pis has thousands of different outfits that it gets dressed up in, so odds are the outfit will be changed multiple times in a day. When we were by it the day before it was wearing something different, and when we walked by later in the day it was wearing something different again. Someones job is literally to change its clothes. Very interesting but also very odd.

Our next stop was Pierre Marcolini. This place was far too classy for us, considering there was like a minimum of how many chocolates you could just taste, and if you wanted to only taste a few you had to also buy a drink?? It was kind of annoying but we did get to take a little walking break because of all their rules so it was fine. We chose some chocolates and they were tiny, but they were good! However, I would definitely would skip this one if I were going to do another chocolate tour in Brussels. We had quite a time though, because Anna had a coughing fit and the lady working was all concerned about her, people were like what is wrong with that girl... we were drawing a lot of attention to ourselves to say the least. Then we went upstairs to the bathroom and I completely ate it going up them and fell right on my face with a nice thud. I don't think the people working were too sad to see us go!!

If you read my last post, you know that next on our tour here was a nice little photoshoot. We went to the park and hung out for a while relaxing in the sunshine. It was a very warm day, almost 80 degrees, so it was nice to be hanging out outside.

We got back to the matter at hand, tasting the chocolate of course, so this time we went to Corne Port-Royal. This was in the Royal Gallery, aka the fancy part of Grand Place so you could say we were really starting to step up our game here. This chocolate was definitely nothing to call home about considering I barely even remembered the name of the place once we left. I do remember the people being very nice there, and helpful about what chocolates we should taste.

At this point I was literally DYING to find some waffles, as it was literally 90% of the reason that I agreed to go to Belgium in the first place. But Anna and I found out that the cheapest (and just as good tasting) waffles come from food trucks, so we were trying to find one of those. However we literally couldn't find any, so now we were wandering streets trying to find the cheapest waffles because neither of us could fathom spending 10 euros for a waffle. We wound up finding some (literally no clue what the shop name was) and oh mama were these waffles good. I got chocolate, strawberries, and whipped cream on top, while Anna got strawberries and nutella. I think they were both something like 6 euros. It was probably one of the best things I have ever eaten, and I would go back to Brussels immediately to have one. (side note: I did get a waffle from a food truck the next day, and it didn't have all the toppings that the store did but it was still wicked good)

Our last chocolate shop that we visited was Elisabeth. At this point, Anna was all chocolated out (lame) but obviously I had room for more. This was my favorite looking store, because there are flowers all over the door so it is super pretty. I tried 2 different chocolates, which apparently I didn't take a picture of, but they were both pretty average. I tried to pay with cash, not having read the sign that they prefer cards, and they girls behind the counter laughed at me and made fun of me in French. No one seems to remember that I took French in high school aka I am basically fluent so I was like RUDE stop making fun of me. I was like yeah I know I am a dumb American thank you and give me my chocolate. I wanted that place to be my favorite because it was my favorite looking but I left with average chocolate and crushed spirits because the girls working were mean. :(

All in all, what a day! We had so much fun tasting chocolate and getting to see more of the city. It was a great (and tasty) way to spend our time!! And in all we didn't wind up spending too much money so it worked out well. I would say this was our favorite day of our weekend in Brussels. For the most part, everyone was really nice and we were able to get by with our English and the language barrier. But it was definitely nice to go home to our English speaking country :) #stayclassyscotland #andbrussels

Copenhagen

Anna and I spent the weekend of November 14-17 in Copenhagen. I had always wanted to visit there, and so had she so we were very excited!! We got there really late at night on Thursday and had to go find the hostel, which was quite an adventure. We wound up taking trains and walking there and it was very confusing and stressful. We got to the hostel, which was very nice, and we only had 1 roommate that first night who seemed very odd but quiet so she worked for me! The next morning we woke up and had all sorts of plans on what we should do for the day, but we decided to go shopping instead. There were so many stores!! We walked by a shoe store and I was obsessed with some of the boots in there. We’ll get back to that. There was a lego store which of course was a thrill for me and we spent around an hour in there because I was enjoying myself so much. Apparently lego was created in Denmark so not only was it exciting to go to a lego store in general, it was extra exciting bec...
