Murrayfield Stadium Tour

Hi everyone, long time no chat!
Finals season is upon me here at school, so sadly I have been a bit swamped with paper writing. Something fun however that I was able to do in one of my classes was take a tour of Murrayfield stadium. This is the rugby stadium in Edinburgh, and it is where the Scottish rugby team plays. The class I am in is called sports event tourism. We went to learn about the stadium and how it makes money, which was very cool!

Since my major is about event planning, we learned about the events that go on at the stadium. Some of these include business meetings, conferences, and weddings. As is the case in most stadiums, there are different size boxes that overlook the field. The box that I found most fascinating was the smallest one. It only holds around 15 people. Companies usually rent this out to schmooze basically. The tour guide said that audi rents it a lot. The company rents it, can bring anyone they want, get served food and drinks, and at the end of the game they get a full dinner. However, the catch is that it costs almost $3,000 PER PERSON to have a seat in the box!!! I thought this was absolutely insane. I have never considered how much money would be spent on box seats at something like a patriots game, but wow. That’s a lot of money!! The stadium was built in the 1990s for a few million and they just got out of debt THIS YEAR. Incredible with the price of these private rooms!!

We got to see the press room which I found pretty fascinating as well. We saw the difference of what it would look like on tv vs what it looked like in person. It’s so tiny in person! Made me wonder about what other press rooms look like.

lassies

Quite possibly my favorite part of the whole stadium however was the fact that their bathrooms are labeled “lads” and “lassies”. Like you’re actually kidding. It’s hilarious that they actually refer to people this way but I love it.
That’s all for now. I am trying to catch up on my blogs! My bad for being behind nana hehe xo #stayclassyscotty

One Year Later

Hi everyone, I realized a few months ago that I had never posted a recap of my time in Scotland, so I decided that a year since I started my journey would be a good time to do so. Obviously SO much has happened in a year, in my life and in the world. Everyday I feel eternally grateful to have been able to go abroad in general, as so many of my friends got their experiences cut short in the spring due to COVID-19. This pandemic has made all of the things that I was able to do while in Europe seem impossible at this point in time. Imagining life before having to wear a mask, without the words "social distancing" being used together, or just to be in an environment with complete strangers can seem overwhelming at times. However, I wanted to touch on some of the experiences that I had and to share some of the things that I learned during my three months in Scotland. Independence. This has become very important to my life since I have been home. I feel more confident in my own ab...

Milan and Budapest

Who would’ve ever thought I would be flying to Italy on Thanksgiving day! Definitely not me!!   Jamie, Susan, Anna and I headed off from Edinburgh to fly to Milan for the next few days. Spirits were high and pizza was on the mind. On our way to the airport I looked at my Apple Pay receipts which was disturbing because I spent a little too much money out at the club the night before.. hehe oops. So I spent the first part of our flight calculating how much money everyone owed me for the drinks I bought them and wound up feeling a lot better.   We got to our airbnb in Milan pretty late but we were all starving so we had to go find somewhere that was open for us to eat. We found this restaurant and all inhaled pizza. I thought it was the best pizza ever because I was starving! The next morning we woke up and headed over to the Duomo area. We went inside the cathedral which was beautiful and even climbed to the top of it. The view was very cool and we got some bomb ...

Jamie Visits Edinburgh

Just a few days after we returned from Copenhagen, Jamie came to visit me! I was so excited for her to come and stay with me for the whole week of thanksgiving! Poor thing though, her flight got delayed so she didn’t get to me until Saturday afternoon instead of Saturday morning. I went to pick her up at the airport and of course they lost her bag. She was a bit of a mess but I helped her pull it together… you know after she cried for a while <3   That night we brought her out to Finnegans Wake (aka the best bar/our favorite bar in Edinburgh). She was quite a trooper being so tired but still coming out!! She got to have quite a ~real~ experience, as we were bringing her along with us to do everything that we usually do anyway. The next day we went to the Christmas market.   On Monday she got to come to class with me (lucky) and then we went to ASDA, which is basically Scottish Walmart. We were prepping to have a full thanksgiving dinner on Tuesday night so we ...
